Chapter plan done

Good news everybody :-) I have finished the chapter plan for the novel I plan to write. I'm quite happy with it overall and it presents a good flow of events to bring the story to its conclusion. I can't start writing properly for a few more days, so I'll take the time to keep reviewing and tightening the plan.

I am starting to worry that 50,000 words is a lot to write in a month. But I do have the story mapped out and hopefully once I get going it won't be as daunting.

Not long now

Only five more days to go, I really want to get started! In the meantime I have continued with some preparation, expanding the back story for the main character. I now know how he gets to where he is at the start of the book and it's helped to refine the character plan I have so far.

Probably the biggest issue I have left is the final battle. While I have sketched out the encounter and how it will flow, I'm not really happy with it. Still I have a few days to sort it out before I have to start writing proper.

For anyone who is curious about the single link I have for Littleport Life, it's a magazine that I help out with. Sometimes it's nice to do something that isn't work-related :-)

The new idea

A flurry of posts to get started, but I promise this is the last for today :-) So, the story has taken a darker and more supernatural tone, I've copied the summary below. I'm currently working on the chapter plan (I have a rough one, but it needs some work) and fleshing out the characters.

On a related note, while it's nice to do some prepearation, I really want to get started :-)

The Cult of Me

A mass murder surrenders himself to the authorities as part of his plan for a violent end to ensure his hate filled legacy. The plan goes awry when he meets a priest who is immune to his unique ability. Working for a part of the Church that most had thought long dead, the priest recruits the murderer to defeat the Church’s greatest enemy.

The original idea

My original idea was as follows:

The Cult of Me

Mark Hammond, a mid-level manager at the Defence Research Agency steals some technology that when combined will allow him to take over other people’s minds. The experiment works, but not as he expected. Instead of moving his mind into a new host body, he extends his mind into another person.

He soon realises that he can effectively control multiple people and embarks on an orgy of self indulgence at other people's expense. He caters to his every whim and fantasy, however he soon comes to realise the limitations of his ambitions and cranks it up a notch into a mad scheme for world domination.

The technology however has it weak points that mean that a few people realise what he is up to and have to stop him.

The story is told predominantly from his point of view, with some scenes from his various adversaries. And there is a final tweak in the tail.

It wasn't a bad idea and I did get quite far with the planning of it, however I did want to do soemthing a bit darker, it's still the same title, but the story has changed a little.

In the beginning

So, here we are. I'm pretty new to this blogging thing, but as I plan on having a go at National Novel Writing Month (http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/dashboard) in a few days I thought it best to have somewhere to announce my progress.
